Musician Inspires us to Support a Worthy Cause

Lisa Sugar is a Canadian singer/songwriter/musician who wrote and recorded a song about

a precious dog named Katie that she adopted. This helpless young dog was found homeless

on the streets, emaciated, starving and put into a high-kill shelter. Katie was saved by a

fantastic animal rescue organization, and Lisa adopted her through them. Lisa describes

Katie as a gentle, loving soul who changed her life.

After Lisa adopted Katie, she decided to volunteer with Save Me Dog Rescue because she

was so grateful to have her in her life and wanted to give back to the rescue community. Her

volunteer experience includes musical charity events to raise money for the rescue

organization, and her passion for music led her to write a song about her unique relationship

with Katie.

Her mission for the song, “Katie Love,” is to raise awareness for rescue dogs and to

communicate through music the joy and peace that comes from dogs finding their forever

(furever!) homes. She is hoping that her song will inspire others to consider adoption instead

of shopping for a dog.As she so eloquently explains, “Everyone thinks I rescued Katie, but

she rescued me. She warms my heart every day and makes my heart sing.” To listen to the

inspiring song “Katie Love,” go to Spotify or YouTube, or play it on your favourite music

streaming service (search for Katie Love by Lisa Sugar). A portion of proceeds from this

song will be donated to Save Me Dog Rescue. To meet Katie, watch the music video

Save Me Dog Rescue is a registered charity organization that is dedicated to rescuing

homeless and abandoned dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care

for them. They are an all-breed rescue with a special affinity for dogs that have had a

tougher time getting out of shelters such as seniors, high medical need dogs and black dogs.

They work in conjunction with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians,

trainers, and boarding facilities. This enables them to rescue many animals every year,

providing them with loving temporary care and finding them well-matched, carefully screened

forever homes all over Ontario.

At any given time, they may have a wide variety of dogs from 8-week-old puppies up to

super seniors and everything in between. They also serve as a resource to the community

and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership,

including the importance of spaying and neutering, positive behaviour training and good

wrote about the loss of her mother, and “Painting on the Wall” is a song about how vital it is

to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel during challenging times. There are also two

cover songs included on the album, “The House that Built me” (Tom Douglas; Allen

Shamblin) and “Imagine” (John Lennon).

All of Lisa’s songs on the “Sweet Reflections” EP can also be streamed on Spotify and a

hundred other online music sites.

“Sweet Reflections” was recorded, mixed and mastered at Crafton Audio by Jay Crafton in
